Romanian orthodox monks play on wooden planks called “semantron” to summon the monks from all over the monastery to the praying room.

Used since the 6th century, its trance-inducing sound, evocative of war drums reminds monks of the spiritual battle. We are lucky to have found a monastery where this century-old tradition continues to today and where the monks are happy to share what will easily become a life-changing moment with our guests.
